Everyday Life - Amazing

I continue to be amazed with the direction my life has taken.  Nearly 10 years ago while I was in the midst of a career in corporate America, God spoke within my thoughts and heart.

For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord.  They are plans for good …  to give you a future and a hope.  – Jeremiah 29:ll (TLB)

I remember where I was when I finally told God, “Okay, okay I hear you.  I’ll submit an application to the Dominican sisters of Sinsinawa, but I’m not sure how this will turn out.”  Well, it turned out that I took early retirement and embarked on an astonishing journey.  The details of how that all came to be is a story for another time.

What do I do in my everyday life now?  My ministry is in our motherhouse (corporate offices) providing administrative support for the managers in our finance office.  One of the sisters asked me what I actually do on an everyday basis.  I told her that I do whatever follows, “Anne, would you …?”

I am using the skills I learned in the corporate world I came from.  True, I’m not writing computer code now, but I am using software to support the staff in the office.  I am also writing training materials for our sisters to help them use on-line systems to manage their finances.  In addition to this, I perform the mundane everyday tasks needed to run an office like fetching and delivering incoming and outgoing mail, making photocopies, typing letters, creating and populating spreadsheets, etc.  What has changed is the focus.  I truly am providing service with no thought or pressure of enhancing a career.  What freedom!  However, the most amazing point about this journey is sharing life, love, prayer, ministry, study, and community with an incredible group of women.

Oops, got to run.  A meeting reminder just popped up on my screen.  Before I head off to record the minutes, I leave you with a question or two:

What plans does God have for you?  Have you asked lately?
