Patterns and Meaning

Image
My nephew Daniel was three years old at the time and his sister Brenna was two. It was early April in Wisconsin, and the streets were clogged with slush. The sky was gray, and the air was damp and cold. Brenna turned to her brother and asked, “Will it ever be warm again?” Daniel, having acquired an unusual lot of wisdom in his young age, responded, “Yes, it will be warm again…and then it will be cold again. It’s ALWAYS like that!”   As we human beings move from one period of life to the next, we begin to see patterns and the patterns give our lives meaning and as we share that meaning with one another we grow together in the realization that there is a Being in the Universe who loves us and cares for us and provides us with what we need. As we share life’s journey, let us be grateful for the kind of change that makes us whole. Mary Ellen Green, OP Woodruff, WI

"Too" Busy

Last year’s midwest Winter was long and cold, but this year we’ve begun to experience Spring already.   And with the early daylight savings time upon us it seems even more so.   We’ve already passed the “ides of March” and I find myself asking, “How did THIS happen?” I’m one of those lucky people whose schedule is different everyday, and has been for much of my adulthood.   After teaching in a high school (where every day was nearly the same) I set off on a different path.   Now I have to look at my calendar every day just to see where I’m supposed to be! Needless to say, my calendar is very important – and if I fail to mark something down (as I too often do), well, you can imagine what happens… Our lives are busy!   And the older I get it doesn’t seem to slow down.   How about yours?   Have you fallen into the trap of being “too” busy?   Do you take time for just being ?
