Gospel of the Holy Spirit

In the Easter season - fifty days that are one - one day stretched out across fifty 24-hour segments - brings the church community to ponder the early church and the movement of the Holy Spirit as more and more people - Jews & Gentiles - came to believe in Jesus the Christ.  This is the time we hear readings from the Acts of the Apostles, also known as the Gospel of the Holy Spirit, at Mass.

I think of this book of the bible as the story of us - the church - in our infancy.  Just like our own infancy - we don't know our earliest stories unless someone who was there tells us.  This part of scripture is very much the same.

It is our earliest accounts of the movement of the Good News and we need to hear these stories again and again.  Why?  To remember so that we, too, know how to be the church in our time.

During the Easter season - right through Pentecost - take time to slowly read and ponder this book of the bible.  Allow yourself to truly meet the many people who are in these chapters and verses.  See what it takes to boldly live the Gospel.  See how the Holy Spirit moves through ordinary people who are searching for God and become vessels of the Good News.  Then be ready for the Holy Spirit to inspire YOU!
