I Run With Nuns!

Image
This is the title of our 5 K Fun Run for the non profit agency I work for. We provide transitional housing for homeless women. I am the director of this program. However this title is true of me and of the energy I get “running with nuns”. Let me tell you about one such fun run! Once a month I participate in a conference phone call with our sisters and associates all over the country. There must be about twelve of us on this call and we have a lively discussion and reflection on ways we are becoming an anti-racist institution. We share some of our experiences of encountering racism in our ministry or daily life. We share how we have become stronger in naming what is not of God, of Integrity, of Dignity and Respect. I have broadened my relationship with these good people and am proud to be counted as ‘running with nuns”! Might you want to ‘run with us?” Sr. KC Young, OP

At the Heart of Ministry Is Relationship

Image
As a Dominican of Sinsinawa sister, relationships are very important to me. We were meant to engage in and form healthy relationships. I have been involved in campus ministry for almost two years and during this time I have seen the necessity and relevance of relationships. Campus ministry is mainly about me forming healthy relationships with the students and them with me. One of the ways that I try to do this, is by ‘hanging out’ or as we would say in Trinidad ‘liming’ with the students. I would usually try to do this either before or after an event or whenever students are around. I have been privileged to share in spiritual direction and group spiritual direction with some students. This is a very enjoyable and humbling experience for me. It is a humbling experience because someone trusts me enough that they are willing to share their life experiences and challenges with me. I am inspired in my ministry by the goodness, deep faith and trust in God by the students. I am continuously

Community Gathering

I'll follow on Miriam's recent blog regarding the snow storm and our canceled local community meeting at my place. We’ve rescheduled for this Friday. I'm the Joeann that she mentioned in the blog. I'll tell more about myself the next time, but for now I'll just continue with her image of the space between the logs. The five of us who were to be at our supper community evening, bring unique gifts, talents and experience to our ministries: Miriam, as she mentioned, is in retreat ministry, Barbara, Judy are involved with Mission Integration for the congregation, Kathy is a hospice chaplain, and I'm an artist. We come together to pray, share a meal and study. We discuss various topics of interest to the broader community. We look forward to energizing exchange of ideas and mutual support, as well as sharing a meal. I've switched the Wednesday chili menu to a shrimp pasta one. Joeann Daley, OP
