Summer....Time of Transitions

Summer – what a welcome season!   For me, this summer is a time of transition.   This weekend our congregation will welcome our new leaders.   One thing I love about the Sinsinawa Dominicans is that we always look to new ways we can help bring about the reign of God in our fractured world.   May our new leaders be blessed! Last Sunday Sisters Kathleen Flood, Geri Hoye and I attended another transition – Sister Janet Delperdang’s farewell at St. Regina Parish in Parsons, TN, where she has been parish director since 1997.   What a joy it was for us to celebrate with her and to hear from the people what a great impact Janet has had on their lives.   The next transition is our Sister Maureen Kennedy’s transition to eternal life.   Maureen died on June 28 and her funeral is July 1, her birthday, and now her birthday into eternal life.   Maureen was part of our local community for many years and gave us much joy with her humor, even in the midst of physical suffering.   What lesson do

Relationships - The Heart

As Dominicans of Sinsinawa, we say, “At the heart of ministry is relationship.”   When I heard this the first time as a lay woman considering forming a relationship with this incredible group of women, I was most certainly drawn to them.   In fact, this was one of the components that tipped the scale for me.   Ten years later as a vowed member, this past week has confirmed my journey of being in a lasting relationship with the Dominicans of Sinsinawa.   You see, I’ve just said “good-bye” to my 4 biological sisters after spending the last several days with them.   For the past 5 years we’ve been gathering without husbands and children to spend time with each other because “we don’t know how long we’ll have each other.”   This year I was the hostess.   My sisters were warmly welcomed and extended gracious hospitality by the sisters living at the Mound (our headquarters.)   We adopted a table in the dining room in between our tourist expeditions.   One by one, sisters stopped by our
