Celebrating Father Samuel Mazzuchelli

February 23, 2014 marks the beginning of a year-long celebration of the Sesquicentennial of the death of Father Samuel Mazzuchelli, OP.  150 years ago, after going out in a February Wisconsin winter to answer a sick call, Fr. Samuel fell ill and died soon after.

It is fascinating to think of the legacy he has left us, the Congregation of Sisters he began in 1847.  Here are some traces of Father Samuel evident in the Dominican Women of Sinsinawa today:
 -  gospel transparency
 -  prayerful spirit
 -   a zeal for life
 -  humor and joy

Who knows what the future holds?  One thing for sure is we are accompanied by giants guiding us along the way.

With whom do you connect from your past?
